Third-Party Recruiting Policy

Cal Poly, Career Services defines Third-party recruiters as agencies, organizations, or individuals recruiting candidates for temporary, part-time, or full-time employment opportunities for other organizations rather than for internal positions. Examples are employment agencies, search firms, contract recruiters, venture capital firms acting on behalf of their portfolio companies, and online job posting or resume referral services.

Third-party recruiters may NOT utilize MustangJOBS powered by Handshake. Third-party recruiters may participate in our signature career fairs for in-house positions only (registration will be completed by CS staff). Third-party recruiters are not given access to our career fair resume book, and the search and message feature within Handshake.

Third-party recruiters must abide by the following guidelines when recruiting at a career fair:

  • Third-party recruiters will not be allowed to charge fees of any kind to student or alumni applicants.
  • Third-party recruiters are not allowed to recruit for their clients.
  • Only release candidate information provided to the identified employer in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Re-disclosure of candidate information to any other parties is not permitted.
  • Failure to abide by these third-party requirements will result in loss of access to all Career Services events.
  • Third-party recruiters that are ‘Premium’ partners with Handshake will not have access to our platform due to policies that allow premium partners access to the search and message feature within Handshake.
