Thank you for your interest in utilizing Big Interview and/or Big Resume in your curriculum.

Request access to both platforms by completing this short form. Please note: if you already have access to either Big Resume or Big Interview, then you also have access to the other using the same login information.

Big Interview

Big Interview is an interactive platform that helps students develop and refine their interviewing skills. The platform offers video tutorials for students to learn more about preparing for interviews including how to prepare for behavioral interviews using the STAR method. Big Interview also offers mock interviews for the following types of questions: general, industry-specific, by competency and skillset, Admissions interviews for graduate and professional schools, government interviews, and practice interviews for some of the fastest growing jobs for veterans.

Faculty can easily create assignments by choosing from common questions or you can create a custom set of questions.

Creating a BigInterview Assignment

Following are directions to set up an Interview Assignment for a class; a video tutorial can also be found here.

  1. After requesting access, login to Big Interview at https://calpoly.biginterview.com/ by clicking on the Login link in the upper right corner. Be sure to use your Cal Poly email to login.
  2. You will likely be directed to the Student View dashboard. To navigate to your Faculty/Admin Dashboard, click on the Apps launcher (square dot icon in upper left) and click Admin Mode and select biginterview
  3. Click Interviews in the top navigation bar and then select Interview Assignments
  4. If you wish to use a past assignment you created or copy an existing  one, search the list of assignments and select the one you want to duplicate.
    • When you find the one you want to use, click on Actions drop-down on the right, then click Duplicate
    • The copy will open. Click the Edit Details and Settings link at the top to get started.
    • At a minimum, you will want to change the name of the assignment and the due date. IMPORTANT: Please use your course abbreviation, course number, last name, and quarter to name your assignment (e.g. ENGR 301-01 Martin Fall 2025 Interview Assignment).
    • You can update or edit any other details of the assignment. Please be sure to copy the new access code for your students.
  5. If you are starting from scratch, then click the green Add New Assignment button to get started (after doing Step 3 above).
  6. Add all your assignment details and follow the automated path to create the assignment.
  7. IMPORTANT: Please use your course abbreviation, course number, last name, and quarter to name your assignment (e.g. ENGR 301-01 Martin Fall 2025 Interview Assignment).
  8. In step 3 (optional), you can assign lessons to your students which is learning content developed by BigInterview.
  9. In step 4 (optional), you can add or change the criteria used to score the interviews. After your students complete their assignments, you can use these criteria to review and add feedback to their interviews.
  10. In step 5 (optional), you can manually add users by typing their name and email address and clicking the plus sign. This would be in place of simply giving students the access code.
    • You can upload a CSV file of your class list by clicking on the blue Import Users from CSV button at the bottom of the page. The CSV file should have three columns in this order: First Name, Last Name, and Email. Keep in mind that the first row is the CSV header row. Also, if you upload a second file it will replace ALL the users from the first upload.
    • Edit the invitation message with whatever text you want to add. As soon as you click the green Save Details button, an email will go out to all of the students that you added to the list.
  11.  You should come to a screen with an access code. If you have chosen NOT to upload users, then you can share the access code with the students in your class. They will simply login to BigInterview, go to Your Apps (9 dots) in upper left, select biginterview, click on Assignments and enter the assignment code to get started.
  12. Review this resource if you prefer to assign custom questions.

Big Resume

Big Resume offers comprehensive feedback to help students strengthen their resume, while also optimizing it for compatibility for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). This platform will help students tailor their resume for specific roles increasing their chances of getting through the ATS and getting an interview.

Big Resume provides students with immediate evaluation feedback across four key criteria:

  1. Readability - spelling, structure, and clarity
  2. Credibility – analyzes keywords, relevant skills, and impact statements
  3. Formatting – reviews font choice, margins, bullets and overall layout
  4. ATS Fit (optional)  – compares resume to job descriptions or keywords for ATS optimization.

Career Services has created scoring guides for each College and for first-year freshmen. You can copy one of our scoring guides to easily create an assignment. We also encourage you to refer students to our Drop-in Hours (offered M-F) to get additional feedback on their resume after using the Big Resume platform.
